Jan 11: First Friday

Brunei building...donated by the Sultan of Brunei!
Today was a good day. First,
SOAS Main Building - Library, Classrooms, and Student Lounge
"ULU" (not YOLO)... University of London Union Building
Katie and I went to hand in our course declaration forms at the main building at Russell Square campus. It's nice to finally have that all selected, so I can begin really feeling like a student next week.

Soon after, we browsed around the (very small) campus bookstore, as well as Waterstone's across the street to get an idea of where to shop for our books (which we will be able to view online shortly after course enrollment).

We also stopped at the "ULU" (not to be confused with YOLO) building, or University of London Students Union Building. There is a whole lot to take advantage of there - a gym, lunch area, gift shop, and most importantly discounts for local events. I will most likely get a card next week so I can be well equipped to enjoy London on a budget!

After our time on campus, we both walked to Argos, which is that catalog store that somewhat scarred us the first day. However, they had good deals on room items Katie needed, and I got myself a quality pillow - the cheap ones I had bought before just weren't cutting it. We ate at a Pret A Manger, walked back to our housing and hung out, watching TV on our computers for a little to relax. I was even lucky enough for Katie to make me some dinner - Fusilli Pasta with Tomato Basil sauce. It was pretty good!

One of the many Pubs I hope to visit while I'm here.
Later, we contacted some friends (Allegra and Heling) and went out to The Queen's Head Pub, which is a pub pretty close to Dinwiddy where SOAS students are welcomed at an inviting discount. We all happened to know one of the bartenders - a fellow SOAS student, who has been here all year and was our tour guide during orientation (Chelsea)! A nice introduction to local pubs if you ask me. We stayed, chatted it up for a little while (even with a few locals), and made our way back to Dinwiddy housing. Tomorrow, Katie and I have a fun-filled day planned with BC Study Abroad Students in London - Sightseeing in Central London! There will be a bus tour, walking tour, and lunch at a riverside Pub in between. I'll be sure to take a lot of pictures!

Til then - Cheers!
