Jan 13: Lazy Sunday

Chapel Market - a nice place for local food!
Today was a very relaxing Sunday. First of all, I slept in, which is always nice. I ate my last bagel for breakfast and decided that today was the day I would finally stock up on some food.

Katie suggested browsing the outdoors farmer's market, Chapel Market, since she decided to join me on my trip to Sainsbury's for some food. While I didn't buy anything at Chapel Market today, it was a fun atmosphere and I may go back soon to take advantage of the good deals on produce, vegetables, meats, and cheeses that are offered there.

I'll certainly have to go back and buy something!
Sainsbury's was packed and, since I have to carry what I purchase back with me, I had to be judicious of what to buy. I was able to find some good deals and got some ground (or minced, as they say here) beef, chicken breasts, and sandwich steak (cheesesteaks anyone?) to freeze, as well as fixings for tacos, BBQ chicken, and anything else I might want to make in the next week or so (frozen pizza, burgers to freeze, some bagels...you know, essentials).

I can't resist...ever.
The tricky part was actually making it all fit into my "alotted" (I use the term loosely, because it's really a free-for-all) kitchen storage space. There was a lot of stray food (to put it nicely), that may have even been left here from last semester! Eitherway, I was able to find and organize well-defined corners of freezers, fridges, and cabinets, so I'll at least know where my stuff is. I also got to talk with a floormate, Rob, who is originally from a little outside London. Usually, our flat is pretty quiet, so it was nice to have some time to talk with one of my neighbors.

The rest of the afternoon was just like any other Sunday afternoon at home - watching football (American football, as they call it here). I watched the Seahawks nearly comeback to beat the Falcons this afternoon and am currently enjoying the Texans/Pats game. I watched the Ravens outlast the Broncos in double-OT last night, but missed what appears to be Colin Kaepernick's best game ever for the 49ers. I can't imagine the 49ers losing to the Falcons next week...I feel as though we are headed for a "Harbaugh Bowl" of Ravens-49ers. (I can't root for the Pats, sorry you can't make me.) Eitherway, its nice to be able to find the games on my computer here.

Katie was nice enough to make me some chicken nuggets for dinner, and afterwards we ran across the street to get some dessert: Cadbury's chocolate! It's definitely nice to be able to live near so many stores and restaurants...hopefully I won't go broke too soon!

I think that's enough for tonight. Tomorrow begins my first "real" week of classes, so wish me luck! (I have an Advanced Economic Analysis Lecture at 1).

Til then - Cheers!
